About Me
Jane is a Leeds University graduate with a first class degree in Sociology, currently undertaking an MA in Politics With Research Methods at Sheffield University, who is committed to furthering social justice through her left leaning, socialistic/anarchistic (Murray Bookchin=gospel) and feminist orientated writings and practices. Jane is a member of the British Sociological Association, The Labour Party and Liberty.
Jane is a board member/director of the progressive company – SilenceBreakers. For Jane, SilenceBreakers is what is missing from mainstream politics, with the organisation providing disadvantaged and marginalised communities/people a voice through reconditioning computers to then utilise them within these disadvantaged communities to teach social media skills – achieving social, economic and environmental sustainability. For more, see my blog on the organisation here.
Jane regularly maintains a blog (Jane’s Political Ramblings – which you are currently on) and has received some welcomed recognition. This involves being quoted by The Independent, The Guardian and The Wall Street Journal. Furthermore, Jane has had articles published by a London based magazine called The Blog Paper. Jane was the first undergraduate contributor to Public Sociology (a Leeds University Sociology and Social Policy blog). Jane has also undertaken voluntary work, including a year on the Green World Editorial Board, working as a Signpost Agency Administrator for Age Concern, and assisted with a political project by Latimer, to map the UK politically. Furthermore, Jane undertook freelance work for another progressive up and coming company, Silent Cities.
Aside from academic and political interests, Jane has played football since she has been able to walk and has various awards to show for it. She has played for several teams –including Sheffield United. Most notably was Jane’s secondary school, Meadowhead, where she was involved in winning several league titles. In particular, in 2006, Meadowhead Girls Football Team won the ‘Treble’ – i.e. the league, South Yorkshire Cup and the ‘ESFA Royal Air-force Under 16 Schools’ Cup’. The latter competition resulted in them becoming the best girls’ school football team (14-16 years) in the country, seeing them play the final at West Brom’s stadium and Jane as captain.
Jane also has a love for music, especially rock music with a good set of lyrics.

Excellent blog! I enjoyed reading. Will definitely be keeping up to date. It helps also that you’re around my age, so it’s nice to see how other people our age relate to politics.
Hi, thanks for that:) much appreciated.
Yeah, i very much agree, especially when so many younger people are disillusioned with politics these days.
[...] Tory Teenager : Self-explanatory really, a blog. Labour List : Labour themed Discussion Lib Dem Blogs : A whole list of Liberal Democrat posts. My personal favourite. [...]
Oooh… didn’t realise that you’re only slightly older than I am. Will definitely be keeping up with this blog now, as futiledemocracy said: it’s nice to see how other people our age relate to politics.
Ha:) thanks for the comment, I agree – it is nice to see how different ages view politics and stuff.
Do you have a blog yourself?
Do you think you are the most left-wing rocker around or does anyone outdo you?
Praguetory,
is that meant as an offence?
No, just curious. I’m into rock, too, but my impression is that most rockers are pretty right-wing in their outlook.
Ah right, sorry – just took it as an offence.
I don’t know too many left wing rockers actually – either left wing or rockers on their own lol. So yeah, right wingers may be more likely to be into rock – like yourself lol.
You like old or newer rock better?
I like exciting music full stop – but most of it is fairly old I suppose – you probably weren’t born when I went to my first gig.
I suppose I was looking at political orientation thingy and wondering how you would have to be answering the questions to get over there!
Lol, yeah well regardless I have heard a lot of older rock music and prefer that to newer stuff most of the time.
Lol, well its also my civil right views that got me over there too – like i think we should have decriminalisation of drugs and stuff – that’s what makes it look even more lefty.
With regards to the Left/Right wing rock thing, have you seen the great Ramones film? Johnny a right winger, Joey a liberal leftist. Err, the Clash, gang of four, New Model Army, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys etc…
I dont think any one viewpoint has a monopoly in music
I haven’t no. But thanks for that, will check it out.
The Housemartins, The Jam, The Smiths (not sure about Morrissey solo)…all staunch leftists in the 1980s.
Go musical lefties!
Hi There Jane,
Your blog is so hyped. I was wondering if you’d care for a link exchange? I’m Rachel by the way and I’m the author of a book called Aussies Wanna Kiss, I’m not sure if you’ve heard about it before. It’s basically it’s a book about the issues that most Australians are facing these days. It’s my fair share of campaign to enkindle awareness to my fellow aussies to speak up and fight for what we think is right.
Hope to hear from you soon. You can e-mail me at rachel_emmes@yahoo.com
Cheers,
Rachel
Will reply through email, thanks.
Jane
